A truly new arrangement of the old original blues tune. The oldest known existing recording is by Appalachian artists Clarence Ashley and Gwen Foster and was made in 1933. Ashley said he had learned it from his grandfather, Enoch Ashley. Alan Price of the Animals claimed it was a 16th century English ballad of life gone wrong brought to America by the English. No one knows. Well, the Doggies have put together a truly fine arrangement with euro-gypsy piano and a nice bass ride in place of the overdone rhythm guitar arpeggios. Definitely worth a listen. Mikey does a truly magnificent lead vocal.
